If any of your business computers are still running Windows 11 version 24H2, you have only a few days left to move them on. Microsoft ends support for 24H2 on Tuesday 13 October 2026. After that date, those PCs stop receiving security fixes, bug fixes and feature updates.

That does not mean the computer stops working on the 14th. It means every new security hole found after that date stays open on that machine. Over the following months, an unsupported PC becomes an easier target, and it is often the one an attacker uses to get into the rest of your network.

How to check which version a PC is running

It takes about 30 seconds per computer:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Click System in the left-hand menu.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click About.
  4. Under Windows specifications, look at Version.

If it says 24H2, that PC needs attention this week.

What to do about it

Microsoft’s advice is to upgrade to a newer version: 25H2, or ideally the latest, 26H2. This is a version upgrade within Windows 11, not a new licence, and on most machines it runs through Windows Update.

A few practical tips for a small office:

  • Check every machine, not just yours. Laptops that live in a drawer, the reception PC and the computer in the warehouse are the ones most often missed.
  • Back up first. Upgrades usually go smoothly, but make sure important files are saved somewhere other than the PC itself.
  • Schedule it outside busy hours. Allow time for a few restarts.
  • Find out why a PC is behind. If a machine has not updated by itself, something may be blocking it, such as an old setting, low disk space or hardware that cannot take the newer version. That is worth fixing properly, not just once.

If you have more than a handful of computers, this is a good moment to confirm that updates are actually being managed across the business rather than left to each person.
